NDIS Capacity Building Supports

Building Your Capacity to Live the Life You Choose

Our Capacity Building supports help you understand your NDIS plan, connect with the right services, and grow the confidence and skills to direct your own life.

What is a Support Coordinator

A support coordinator helps you use your plan effectively.

A support coordinator helps you understand and use the supports in your NDIS plan. They help you choose the right providers for your needs, connect with community, mainstream and other government services, and build your confidence and skills to manage your supports.

Support coordinators can be registered or unregistered providers. They work with you to make sure your supports are working together to meet your needs and help you work towards your goals.

Support coordinators are different to plan managers

A plan manager helps keep track of your funding. A support coordinator helps with your supports. You can use both to help you work towards your goals.

Registered or unregistered providers

Support coordinators can be registered or unregistered NDIS providers. Your support coordinator will help you understand when you need to use a registered provider.

What a Support Coordinator is For

Support coordinators help you with different things depending on your goals, needs, situation and funding.

They will talk to you about how you want your supports to work together to meet your needs — and give you the right information so you can make your own decisions about your plan and NDIS supports.

Understand and use your plan

Your support budgets, what your funding covers, how it is managed, what you can claim, and when you need service agreements.

Connect with supports and services

Finding the right providers for you, choosing supports that line up with your plan, and accessing community and government services.

Build your confidence to manage your plan

Setting up service agreements, understanding what providers can charge, checking if your supports are working, and using the NDIS participant portals.

Plan for challenges

Knowing what to do when things go wrong, how to change providers, and how to find new supports if your current ones are not meeting your needs.

Prepare for plan reviews

Documenting your progress, identifying what is working, and building a strong case for your next NDIS plan review.

Make your own decisions

Your support coordinator gives you the right information so you can make informed decisions about your plan and NDIS supports — on your terms.

Levels of Support Coordination

There are 3 levels of support coordination the NDIS can fund.

If you would like to work with a support coordinator, you can ask for this to be funded in your plan. Get in touch with your NDIS contact or visit your local office to discuss which level is right for you.

Level 1

Support Connection

Helps you understand your plan, build on your ability to connect with community and mainstream supports, and increase your confidence to manage your plan.

Best for participants who are new to the NDIS or need light-touch guidance.

Level 2

Support Coordination

Helps you build confidence and skills to direct your life — including maintaining relationships, living more independently, and being part of the community.

Best for participants who need ongoing coordination across multiple supports.

Level 3

Specialist Support Coordination

A higher level of support coordination for participants with more complex situations. A specialist support coordinator ensures you have consistent services during any challenges in your support environment.

Best for participants with complex needs, multiple providers, or crisis situations.
